Producing the Most Ambitious Aerial Archive of the Himalayas

Location Nepal: Permits, helicopters, crews, and logistics for the world’s toughest climate and photography mission.

The Vision

Nepal’s Himalayas are changing faster than ever.

To preserve them, an unprecedented three-year mission will combine open-door helicopter aerial photography, glacier documentation, and cinematic filmmaking. Location Nepal stands at the center of this effort, making it possible to turn vision into reality.

  • Helicopter Operations with leading aviation partners, safety-certified crews, and precision flight planning

  • Line Production for international film units, photographers, and broadcasters

  • On-Ground Logistics for remote Himalayan regions—equipment transport, local crews, high-altitude support

  • Safety & Risk Management including weather contingency planning and technical backups

FAQ: Until We Act

Producing the Most Ambitious Aerial Archive of the Himalayas

What is Until We Act?
Until We Act is a long-term environmental and visual documentation project capturing the Himalayas before they change forever. Led by the Gehendra Dhimal Foundation and produced by Location Nepal, the project combines ultra high-resolution aerial photography, cinematic storytelling, and climate awareness into one global mission.

What is Location Nepal’s role?
Location Nepal is the production and logistics backbone of the project. From aerial permits and government coordination to helicopter operations, safety teams, and field production, Location Nepal ensures every mission across Nepal’s high-altitude terrain runs with precision and professionalism.

Why is this project significant?
The Himalayas hold the planet’s third-largest reserve of ice after the Arctic and Antarctic. These glaciers feed Asia’s great rivers, sustaining more than a billion people. Yet they are melting faster than ever. Until We Act documents this transformation from the sky and the ground, creating a record for science, history, and humanity.

How is the documentation carried out?
Aerial photography is conducted through open-door helicopter missions, paired with high-altitude expeditions across the Everest, Annapurna, Manaslu, Langtang, Dolpo, and Mustang regions. The team uses medium format ultra high-resolution camera systems and cinematic production equipment to capture both scale and emotion.

Who leads the creative and production direction?
The project is conceptualized and directed by photographer and producer Gautam Dhimal, who brings over 20 years of experience in international productions, aerial photography, and large-scale logistics. The Gehendra Dhimal Foundation provides vision and stewardship, while Location Nepal manages every operational element on the ground.

What will Until We Act deliver?
The project will create a complete photographic and cinematic archive of the Himalayas, a fine art exhibition in Kathmandu, a global documentary film, and a permanent digital resource for environmental education and advocacy.

How can international partners collaborate?
Global broadcasters, production companies, climate research organizations, equipment manufacturers, and donors are invited to join the mission. Partners can support aerial hours, logistics, post-production, exhibition design, or climate awareness campaigns.

What is the long-term goal?
The initial phase covers Nepal’s Himalayan ranges. Future expansions will include Ladakh, Bhutan, Tibet, northern India, and Pakistan, building a unified Himalayan climate record. The ultimate goal is to spark a global movement for mountain resilience and climate collaboration.

How can helicopter, aviation, and logistics partners participate?
Helicopter companies, aerial filming experts, and transport providers can contribute to flight hours and safety operations. In return, they receive visibility, co-branding, and partnership recognition across all project media and exhibitions.

How can I get involved or support the mission?
