THE EXPERIENCE BEHIND THE OPERATION

GAUTAM DHIMAL

PHOTOGRAPHER · PRODUCER · LINE PRODUCER · FILMMAKER · JOURNALIST · EXPLORER

For more than two decades, Gautam Dhimal has worked between the creative brief and the practical reality of making it happen.

International film & television · Commercials · Documentaries · Fashion · Photography · Aerial · Remote expeditions · Conservation

He understands the image. He understands the production.

And he understands what happens when the two have to work together.

For Gautam, the question is rarely whether something can be done. It is how to make it happen.

BUILT BEFORE THE TECHNOLOGY

GEHENDRA DHIMAL · PREM UPADHYA · GAUTAM DHIMAL

Long before digital production, filmmaking in Nepal depended on people.

Knowing who to call · Knowing where to go · Knowing how to get permission · Knowing how to move people and equipment.

Gehendra Dhimal was already managing productions when Maitighar, one of Nepal’s landmark early commercial feature films, was being made. Alongside Prem Upadhya, he went on to work across generations of Nepali and international cinema, television and commercials, including productions associated with some of the major names in global cinema and advertising.

Together, Gehendra Dhimal and Prem Upadhya founded Films & AdFilms, which became Nepal’s first dedicated film production service company, establishing a production practice built around locations, permits, crews, equipment, logistics and the ability to solve problems on the ground.

There were no production apps. No instant messages. No digital call sheets.

Just relationships, experience, instinct and the ability to make things happen.

That production knowledge became the foundation for everything that followed.

Location Nepal carries that experience into a very different height of the production world.

WHEN THE PLAN CHANGES

THE ROAD DISAPPEARS · THE WEATHER TURNS · A PERMIT TAKES LONGER · EQUIPMENT IS DELAYED · A LOCATION BECOMES INACCESSIBLE · THE HELICOPTER CANNOT FLY · THE SCHEDULE MOVES

That is production.

Our job is not to expect everything to go according to plan.

Our job is to know what to do when it doesn't.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Planning a production in Nepal?

Can Location Nepal support an international production from start to finish?
Yes. We can support as much or as little of the production as you need, from location scouting, permits and local crew to line production, casting, equipment, transport, accommodation, customs, remote logistics and on-set coordination.

Do you handle filming permits in Nepal?
Yes. We coordinate filming permits and location-specific approvals according to the production, locations and activities involved. Requirements can vary considerably between heritage sites, national parks, conservation areas, municipalities, restricted regions and aerial filming.

Can you provide a local fixer or line producer?
Yes. We provide fixer, field production and line production support for international films, documentaries, commercials, television, OTT, photography and editorial productions. The team can be built around the scale and requirements of the assignment.

Can you help us find filming locations in Nepal?
Yes. Location scouting can cover Kathmandu Valley, heritage locations, villages, jungles, rivers, lakes, mountain regions, high-altitude landscapes, remote areas and locations that require additional access or permissions. We look at the production requirements as well as the image.

Can you support remote and high-altitude filming?
Yes. We have experience working in remote Himalayan environments where transport, weather, altitude, communications, equipment movement and access all become part of the production plan.

Can you provide crew and equipment in Nepal?
Yes. We can source and coordinate local production crew, specialist departments and equipment according to the brief, while also working with international or regional specialists where a production requires them.

How early should we contact you?
As early as possible. Some productions can be organised quickly, while others involve multiple locations, government approvals, equipment movement, casting, remote logistics or restricted-area permissions. The earlier we understand the brief, the more options we have.
